Community Engaged Learning at MacEwan University is a project-based teaching-learning strategy that connects classroom theory to challenges experienced in the “real world” by our Community Partners (CP).

In this course, students can create a professional report with either/both a System Expansion recommendation or an Implementation Plan

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Final projects might take the form of:

  • Design, construct and use an information systems model of the organization as a risk identification and management tool
  • Formulate a vision of the future of accounting information systems
  • Apply the Systems Development Life Cycle methodology to accounting
  • Develop and present the business case for implementing an accounting information systems initiative
  • Develop strategies to stay informed of current best practices within the information technology and accounting industry

Final reports will be sent to the company partners after the instructor has approved the final submission.

Requirements

Students complete 1 or both of these 2 projects:

1) Determine a new accounting information system, or part of a system, that would help our community partner. Examples:

  • Human Resources Information System
  • Customer Relationship Management
  • Inventory Management
  • Project Job Costing
  • Business Intelligence
  • E-Commerce.

2) Develop an implementation plan for the new accounting system chosen in stage 1
