Chemistry Laboratory Redesign and Testing
The main goal for the project is to redesign and test the introductory chemistry laboratories at MacEwan University- Department of Physical Sciences. This will involve several different steps for the students, including: - Analyzing the current structure and content of the introductory chemistry laboratories. - Designing a new curriculum and laboratory layout that enhances the learning experience for students. - Testing the new curriculum and laboratory layout with a focus group of students and faculty. - Making adjustments based on feedback and finalizing the redesigned laboratories.
Math Learning Gap Investigation Project
The main goal for the project is to investigate the learning gaps in math between students who are transitioning from high school to university. This will involve several different steps for the students, including: - Analyzing math curriculum from high school and university levels. - Conducting surveys and interviews with students to understand their experiences and challenges. - Identifying specific areas of math where students struggle during the transition. - Researching teaching methods and resources that could help bridge the learning gaps. - Developing recommendations for high schools and universities to improve math education and support transitioning students.
Jurisdictional Scan of Chemistry Programs Across Canada
We are seeking an undergraduate student to provide support in the collection and summarization of data collected from various internet websites. As an undergraduate research assistant, you will be tasked with finding and reading chemistry program requirements from universities across Canada and summarizing findings in excel. You will be required to interpret written paragraphs from various academic calendars and pulling key information like topics covered, laboratory hours, lecture hours and seminar hours. This project will be conducted under the guidance of Dr. Kaitlyn Towle, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Sciences at MacEwan University.
Level Up- Design of PBL modules for classroom use phase 2
The research assistants will work towards developing and designing project-based learning modules that can be used in Edmonton Public School Classrooms. You will be translating the current research interests of MacEwan Faculty members into projects that can be completed in junior high classrooms. In this role, you will be tasked with adapting research methods and generating educational content and testing procedures. This project will be conducted under the guidance of Dr. Kaitlyn Towle, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Sciences at MacEwan University.
