We are looking for a team of learners who can help us in creation of digital media in the form of videos and images. The main goal of this project is to learn and implement advanced video editing skills for various themes. The videos will contain a great mix of audio, visual effects, motion graphics etc. Therefore, the team of learners will use industry standard video editing programs to apply various skills to produce videos according to provided requirements. We will provide access to our servers which will contain video editing programs. The team will remotely access the servers to edit recorded videos.

We are developing various nano sensors where we need to collect data using different electronics. The sensors produce data in the form of resonance frequency. Therefore we need high speed electronics to sample and collect the data from the sensors. For that we need to develop electronics which can track the resonance frequency of the sensors. The board will contain different components such as amplifiers, filters and data processing acquisition units and microcontrollers. This project does involve C programming. It is important that the students are located in Edmonton so that we can provide them the hardware more conveniently. Each student will be paid $1400 through the Level Up grant.

Motion graphics/animation for robots

We are developing various technologies including mobile robots. Mobility being the inherent nature of our robots, we need motion graphics for the robots. The objective of the project is to show the working of the robots through computer generated 3D animations. The final output should be a video file so that we can also share around. We will provide the STL or other files for the basic structure of the robots. Note: The payment of $1400 will be made by Level Up Riipen.

Website server configuration and backend optimization

Curve fitting in C#

We collect a lot of data (numbers) from our nano sensors. We have developed C# based desktop app where the data is acquired in a computer and then stored in a file. The data is also plotted for about a second before the next data stream comes in. For each data stream, we need to fit a mathematical function on the data so that we can calculate different characteristics of the sensors. We mainly need to develop a library so that we can pass on all of the data to the library and then get result. The resultant fitted curve will also be overlayed on the raw data from the sensors.

Development of data driven website

We would like to create a data driven IoT website for our company where data will be coming from our hardware sensors and received by our server through HTTP request. Then the server will be saving the data in a MySQL database. On the front side, we should be able to create accounts for different users. Then each user will be able to add their photo, short profile and description of their assigned data. We will also need admin panel where we should be able to create, delete, edit and block the user accounts. The MySQL database should be designed in a way so that we can save data of over 1GB. The website will work for us as a data receiving and storage method so that we can storage large amount of the data coming from the sensors or other servers. The students will be working on the servers such as AWS so that we can utilize high speed servers which are dynamic in their resource allocation. This way we will only have to pay for the resources (RAM, CPU) only when we use them.

Customer exploration and business analysis for autonomous robotics

Fourien Inc. is a high tech company, based in Edmonton. We develop various products ranging from nano sensors to large scale robots. Through this intrapreneurship project, currently, we are looking to train students (who can possibly join us later). The project involves understanding and market analysis of deployment of autonomous robotics in industries such as warehouses, hospitals, airports etc. The students will be contributing towards market exploration, customer outreach and development of business case to deploy the robots in the aforementioned industries. The student will be learning about: 1. New and exciting technology of artificial intelligence based robots 2. How to perform market analysis 3. How to contact potential clients to understand their requirements and convey to the engineering team in a concise manner. 4. How to develop detailed reports to document the research and analysis. Throughout the project, the students will be working closely with the management and engineering team at Fourien Inc. This is a remote position so all of the meetings/communications with the clients as well as Fourien will take place through emails, telephone calls or video calls.

Analysis for autonomous operation of robots

Fourien Inc. is a high tech company, based in Edmonton. We develop various products ranging from nano sensors to large scale robots. Through this intrapreneurship project with VFC, Currently, we are looking to train students (who can possibly join us later). The project involves understanding and analysis of autonomous robotics where the students will be developing skills in robotics technologies such as robotic operating system (ROS), control system, programming and solving analytical problems. We support hands-on approach towards learning therefore the students will be given multiple assignments. They were briefed about possible approaches to solve a certain problem but they themselves will have to find ways towards an acceptable solution. We believe, the students' achievements through this project will be highly useful in our regular R&D work on autonomous robotics. Key tasks of this project include: 1. Exploring and programming different sensors which can be used in autonomous operation of a robot 2. Understanding and completing various short tasks using ROS 3. Participating in team discussions to brainstorm different ideas towards a solution of a key problem This opportunity for the students to work with our company will prepare them for their jobs after graduation. They will understand industrial problems, approaches to analytically solves the problems and work in a group. The students will also be provided mentorship towards their professional development and getting them ready for the industry.
